To Our Valued Readers and Advertisers:

People everywhere are most interested in the news that affects them directly. People want to know what is going on in their immediate neighborhood. This is the main reason that well-edited community newspapers all over the country have been growing while their metropolitan competitors have suffered from serious circulation declines. It is also why we have four very different newspapers: The Northwest Current, The Georgetown Current and The Dupont Current. We even break The Northwest Current into two editions, one for the areas in the District of Columbia's Ward 3 and one for Ward 4.

News of Georgetown may or may not be of great interest elsewhere in our readership area, so only some of our Georgetown stories make it into the other papers. The Dupont area has very few children of school age. Thus, we do not have high school sports pages in The Dupont Current.

Our newspapers cover exceptionally well-educated communities – areas where there are more adults with advanced degrees than with four-year bachelor degrees. This is why we publish a very serious paper – filled with hard news that directly affects our readers. This approach seems to work. This is also why over 90 percent* of the adults who receive The Current on their doorsteps read it.

It is also why advertising volume in The Current has been growing rapidly – total circulation exceeds 48,000. When a newspaper is well read, the ads are well read, causing advertising volume to grow.

Please feel free to call me or members of The Current staff if you have any questions about any of the newspapers.

Sincerely yours,
Davis Kennedy
